How to Create Your First Custom Magic Particle with a JSON File
Understanding the JSON Structure
Magic Particles Mod reads particle definitions from JSON files placed in the mod's particle folder on the server. Each file describes one particle effect. You do not need to write code — just structured JSON. A particle definition typically includes an identifier, the vanilla particle type it uses as its base, and settings that control how it spawns around players.
Step-by-Step
1. Open the mod's particle directory inside your server's config or data folder. If it does not exist yet, create the folder the mod expects (check the mod's generated config on first run).
2. Copy an existing example file if one is provided, or create a new .json file with a descriptive name like sparkle_aura.json.
3. Give the particle a unique id — this is what players will reference with /mp set [id].
4. Set the base particle type (for example a vanilla particle name such as flame, heart, or end_rod).
5. Adjust spawn settings: how often it triggers, how far from the player it appears, and any offset or spread values.
6. Save the file, then run /mp reload in-game so the server picks up your changes without a restart.
7. Test with /mp set sparkle_aura and confirm the effect appears. If nothing shows, check the server log for JSON syntax errors — a single missing comma will stop the file from loading.
