How to Change Terrain Height, Layers, and Materials with Lithostitched

Terrain Modification Basics

Lithostitched exposes hooks that let datapacks alter how the ground is shaped during world generation. You can adjust the height of terrain, change which blocks appear in each vertical layer, and swap the materials used for surface and subsurface layers. This is done entirely through JSON, so no code compilation is needed.

Editing the Noise and Surface Settings

Locate the folder Lithostitched uses for terrain overrides in its documentation. Inside, create a JSON file that names the target biome or dimension you want to affect. To change height, you modify the noise settings reference or supply a replacement density function that the mod applies on top of the vanilla one. To change layers and materials, you provide a surface rule entry that lists block IDs for the top layer, filler layer, and deepstone layer. Use standard block resource locations like minecraft:grass_block or a modded block ID.

Applying and Verifying

After saving your files, run /reload and create a new world or explore untouched chunks. Terrain changes only apply to newly generated chunks, so old terrain stays as it was. Use F3 to check your Y level and visually confirm the surface blocks match what you specified. If the terrain looks unchanged, confirm your biome or dimension ID is spelled exactly right and that your JSON does not have trailing commas.
