Choose the Best Stone Type for Your Needs
Understand Material Tiers
Each stone type offers different durability and performance. Harder materials generally last longer and deal more damage, but availability varies by location. Cobblestone and andesite are readily available in most biomes, while deepslate requires deeper mining. Nether materials like blackstone and gilded blackstone are only accessible after defeating the Overworld.
Early Game: Surface and Shallow Stones
Start with cobblestone, andesite, diorite, or granite. These are easy to find and provide a significant upgrade over wooden tools. Mossy variants offer similar performance to their standard counterparts.
Mid Game: Deepslate Materials
Once you're mining deeper, switch to deepslate or cobbled deepslate for improved durability. Tuff and dripstone are also found at depth and provide solid performance.
Late Game: Nether and End Materials
Blackstone, gilded blackstone, glowstone, and end stone represent the highest-tier options. These materials are worth the effort to obtain if you want tools that last significantly longer before breaking.
