How to Leave Permanent Light Behind Using Dropped Sources

Drop, Don't Place

Most light mods only glow while you hold the item. The Light Aura Mod also keeps dropped light sources glowing, which turns any torch, lantern, soul lantern, glowstone, or sea lantern into a portable, retrievable lamp. You get the effect of a placed torch without consuming a block placement or committing to a spot forever.

Marking a Route

1. Carry a small stack of cheap sources such as torches.

2. As you explore, drop one at each junction, cave mouth, or turn. It lights the area and acts as a breadcrumb.

3. On the way back, walk over each dropped source to pick it up. Nothing is wasted.

4. For a permanent base marker, drop a glowstone or sea lantern at your entrance and leave it there.

Base and Farm Uses

Dropped sources are handy for lighting mob farms, storage rooms, and villager halls where you do not want visible torch blocks on the walls. Drop a lantern in a corner and the floor lights up. Because you can pick it back up, you can rearrange lighting any time without breaking blocks. This also helps in builds where placed torches would ruin the look — the light appears without a visible fixture.
