Troubleshoot Washed-Out or Dark Lighting

Identify the Problem

Launch your world and compare different areas:

  • Washed-out lighting appears overly bright or loses color detail
  • Dark lighting makes caves and shaded areas too dim to navigate

Adjust Brightness and Contrast

Open shader options and look for brightness or exposure controls. If lighting feels washed out, lower brightness slightly. If areas are too dark, increase it. Make small adjustments (5% at a time) and test in both bright and shadowed areas.

Check Ambient Light Settings

Many shaders include ambient light or global illumination controls. If caves are too dark, increasing ambient light will brighten shadowed areas without affecting direct sunlight. If everything feels flat, lowering ambient light adds more contrast.

Verify Your Video Settings

Confirm that your Minecraft brightness slider (in Video Settings) is set to your preference. Shader brightness and game brightness work together—adjust both if needed.

Reset and Restart

If changes don't help, reset shader options to defaults and restart your game. Sometimes shader settings require a full reload to apply correctly.
