Turn On Virelia Shaders and Check That It's Working

Virelia Shaders runs on either the Iris or OptiFine shader loader. If the world still looks like plain vanilla, the pack probably isn't selected yet.

Selecting the pack

1. From the title screen or the pause menu, open Options > Video Settings.

2. Open the shader menu. Iris calls it Shader Packs and OptiFine calls it Shaders.

3. Find Virelia Shaders in the list and click it.

4. Click Apply or Done. The screen may freeze briefly while the shaders compile. This is normal.

If the pack isn't in the list, use the menu's button that opens the shader pack folder. Make sure the pack file is in the shaderpacks folder. Shader packs don't go in the resourcepacks folder.

Confirming each feature

Load a world and do a quick tour to check that everything is active:

  • Sky: Look up during the day. You should see volumetric clouds drifting across the sky.
  • Shadows: Stand near trees, blocks or mobs in daylight and look for smooth shadows on the ground.
  • Water: Walk to a river, lake or ocean and look across the surface for reflections.
  • Foliage: Watch grass and tree leaves for gentle movement.
  • Light sources: At night, place a torch or lantern and look for a soft bloom glow around it.

If none of these appear, reopen the shader menu. Check that Virelia Shaders is still selected and not set to off.
