Using Colored Lighting to Make Your Builds Look Better
Shoggy Shaders adds colored lighting around torches and other light sources. You can use that glow as a design tool, so your lighting choices shape the mood of a room instead of just stopping mob spawns.
Test Your Light Sources
The pack tints the light around light-emitting blocks, so it pays to see how each one looks in your own world:
1. Build a small dark test room from the block you plan to use in your base.
2. Place one light source at a time: torches, lanterns, glowstone, and any others you have.
3. Note how each one colors the walls and floor. Light sources can look noticeably different from one another with the pack on.
4. Check the room at night as well as during the day. The colored glow stands out most when there's little sunlight.
Design Tips
- Create zones: Use one type of light in living areas and a different one in workshops or storage. The color shift makes each space feel distinct.
- Spread lights out: Leave some darker gaps between lights. Pools of colored light with shadow in between look more natural than flat, even brightness.
- Mind your block palette: Light-colored blocks such as stone, quartz, or birch show the tint clearly. Dark blocks soak it up for a moodier look.
- Light from the side: Wall-mounted lights near corners let the glow wash across surfaces, which pairs well with the pack's simple shadows.
