How to Turn On Shoggy Shaders and Confirm It's Working

Shoggy Shaders is a shader pack, so a shader loader such as Iris or OptiFine has to apply it. With the pack already in your game, switching it on takes a few clicks.

Activating the Pack

1. Launch Minecraft with your shader loader active.

2. Open Options > Video Settings and click Shader Packs (Iris) or Shaders (OptiFine).

3. Find Shoggy Shaders in the list. If it's missing, click the button that opens the shaderpacks folder and check that the pack file is inside. The shaderpacks folder is separate from the resourcepacks folder.

4. Select the pack and click Apply or Done. The screen may freeze briefly while the shaders compile. This is normal.

Checking That It's Running

Load a world and look for the pack's main features:

  • Shadows: Stand near a tree or wall during the day. You should see simple shadows that weren't there with the pack off.
  • Colored lighting: Place a torch in a dark spot and look at the glow on the surrounding blocks. It should be tinted, not plain vanilla brightness.
  • Overall look: Blocks should have a slightly more realistic feel while staying clear and readable.

If the world still looks like vanilla, go back to the shader menu and make sure Shoggy Shaders is highlighted as the active pack, not just selected in the list. To turn it off, pick the option that disables shaders (usually OFF or (internal)) and apply.
