Getting Smooth Frame Rates with Shoggy Shaders on a Low-End PC
Shoggy Shaders is built to run on budget computers and low-end devices, so you usually don't need to sacrifice much. If you still see stutter, a few vanilla settings can help the pack keep its stable performance.
Tune Vanilla Video Settings First
Open Options > Video Settings and adjust these one at a time. Test in your world after each change:
1. Render Distance: Lower it a few chunks. This is often the biggest single gain, because the shader has fewer blocks to light and shadow.
2. Simulation Distance: Lower it if your world has lots of farms or mobs nearby.
3. Max Framerate / VSync: Set a framerate cap your monitor can actually display. This avoids wasted work and keeps temperatures down on laptops.
4. Clouds and Particles: Lowering these frees up headroom with no effect on the shader's lighting.
5. GUI and window size: Playing in a smaller window or at a lower resolution can help a weak graphics chip.
Check Your Setup
- Close background programs, especially browsers and video apps.
- On laptops, plug in the charger and choose a high-performance power mode so the GPU isn't throttled.
- If your loader lets you open a settings screen for the active shader pack, look for lighting or shadow options. Try lowering any quality-related choices you find there.
- Compare frame rates with shaders on and off. Shoggy Shaders aims to avoid big frame drops, so a large gap usually means a vanilla setting or background program is the real bottleneck.
