Exploring Caves and Nighttime Safely with Shoggy Shaders

Shoggy Shaders is designed to keep visibility clear during both daytime and nighttime exploration, so you get the atmosphere without losing track of mobs and ores. A few habits help you get the most out of it underground and after dark.

Lighting Your Way

1. Carry plenty of torches. The pack adds colored light around torches, so each one gives you a warm, readable patch of cave around it.

2. Place torches on one wall only. For example, always light the right-hand wall on the way in. The glow then works as a trail back to the surface.

3. Watch the light pools. Dark spots between your lights are where mobs can spawn. The contrast with the pack on makes those gaps easier to spot.

4. Use shadows as cues. At the surface during the day, the pack's simple shadows help you judge drops, overhangs, and terrain shape.

If It Feels Too Dark

  • Open Options > Video Settings and raise the vanilla Brightness slider. It still works with the shader active.
  • If your loader shows a settings screen for the active pack, check it for any brightness or lighting options and adjust them gradually.
  • Make sure your monitor's own brightness isn't turned low.
  • Night Vision potions still help in very dark caves or underwater.

After changing anything, test it by standing in an unlit cave and then beside a torch. You want to see your surroundings clearly while still being able to tell lit areas from dangerous dark ones.
