Take Cinematic Screenshots Using Focus Blur
Refractal Shaders includes a focus blur effect that highlights whatever is in your direct line of sight. Used well, it gives your screenshots a camera-lens look, with a sharp subject and a softer surrounding view.
Set up the shot
1. Pick a clear subject. A mob, a detailed build, or a single interesting block works best. Make sure the background has some depth behind the subject.
2. Center it. Focus blur is based on what you are looking directly at, so put the subject in the middle of your screen. You can press F3 briefly and use the crosshair to aim, then turn it off again.
3. Hide the interface. Press F1 to remove the hotbar, hand, and crosshair.
4. Hold still. This pack also adds motion blur when you turn or move, so stop moving the mouse and let the image settle before you capture it.
5. Capture. Press F2. Screenshots go to the screenshots folder inside your game directory.
Tips for better results
- Use third person. Press F5 to frame your own character, then look toward the subject so it stays in focus.
- Pair with water. Shoot across a lake or river so the pack's liquid distortion adds texture to the foreground.
- Try a deliberate blur. If you want a sense of speed, take a shot while sprinting or turning. The motion blur will streak the scene.
- Take several shots. Small changes in where you aim shift what stays sharp, so try a few angles.
