Reduce Motion Blur for Building, Parkour, or Combat
Refractal Shaders adds motion blur whenever you turn the camera or travel across terrain. It looks smooth when you are exploring, but it can get in the way during precise building, parkour jumps, or fights. It can also bother players who are sensitive to motion. Here are a few ways to keep it under control.
Check the pack's own settings
1. Open Options > Video Settings > Shader Packs.
2. With Refractal Shaders selected, open the pack's settings screen. In Iris this is the shader pack settings button. In OptiFine it is Shader Options.
3. Browse the menus for anything related to motion blur or camera blur.
4. If an option is available, lower it or switch it off, then apply and test by turning your camera in-game.
The exact menus depend on the pack. If you find nothing, use the workarounds below.
Workarounds that always help
- Turn more slowly. The blur is triggered by camera movement. Lowering Mouse Sensitivity in Options > Controls > Mouse Settings means each flick produces less smear.
- Avoid long sprints during precise work. Travelling across terrain also adds blur, so walk or sneak while lining up blocks.
- Toggle shaders for the task. Switch the pack off from the Shader Packs screen while you do a tricky build, then turn it back on for exploring. Your loader may also offer a shader toggle key, which you can find in Controls > Key Binds.
If blur makes you feel unwell, stop and switch shaders off. Comfort matters more than visuals.
