Improve Visibility in Dark Caves and Night

Understand RealisticLite's Lighting Philosophy

RealisticLite cleans up dark areas by applying realistic ambient lighting—caves and nighttime won't be pitch black, but they won't be unrealistically bright either. This is built into the shader and applies automatically.

Use Torches and Light Sources Strategically

While the shader improves visibility, dark caves still benefit from torches, lanterns, and other light blocks. Place them along your mining routes to create natural-looking illumination that works with the shader's soft shadows.

Check Your Monitor Brightness

If caves still feel too dark, your monitor's brightness setting may be the limiting factor, not the shader. Increase your monitor's brightness or gamma setting in Minecraft's video options to see more detail in shadows without losing contrast.

Night Navigation

At night, the shader maintains enough ambient light to navigate without torches, but visibility is reduced compared to day. Bring a torch or use glow berries for safer exploration. The soft shadows cast by moonlight add atmosphere while keeping the world navigable.
