Improving Shadow Detail in Caves and Forests

Why Shadows Matter

Radiant Atmospheric Glow enhances shadow rendering to add depth and realism to caves and dense forests. Better shadows make terrain feel three-dimensional and help you navigate dark areas more easily by showing terrain contours.

Enabling Shadow Quality Settings

In the shader configuration, locate shadow-related options. These typically include shadow distance (how far shadows render) and shadow resolution (how detailed they are). Higher values create sharper, more detailed shadows but cost more performance. Start with medium settings and adjust based on your frame rate.

Testing Shadow Improvements

Enter a cave system and observe how shadows fall across walls and ceilings. In forests, watch how tree canopy shadows dapple the ground. If shadows look blocky or pixelated, increase shadow resolution. If shadows seem to disappear too close to you, increase shadow distance. If performance drops, lower these values incrementally until you find a balance that looks good and runs smoothly on your system.
