No More Brightness Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on the shader after installing it?
Open your Video Settings, navigate to Shader Packs, and select No More Brightness Shaders from the list. Click Apply and the shader will activate immediately.
Will this shader work with my resource pack?
Yes, No More Brightness Shaders is designed to work alongside resource packs without conflicts. The shader only affects lighting, so your resource pack's textures and models will display normally.
My game is lagging with the shader on. How do I fix it?
Try lowering your render distance or disabling other visual mods temporarily to isolate the issue. No More Brightness Shaders is lightweight, so lag usually comes from other sources or insufficient VRAM.
Can I make the shader darker or brighter?
Open Shader Options from the Video Settings menu while the shader is active to adjust intensity settings. You can fine-tune how much the daylight is dimmed to match your preference.
Does this work in the Nether and End?
The shader primarily affects overworld daylight. The Nether and End have their own ambient lighting that remains largely unchanged.
What's the difference between this shader and turning down my brightness setting?
This shader selectively dims sunlight while preserving contrast and detail, whereas lowering brightness affects your entire screen uniformly and can make caves and interiors too dark.
Will the shader affect my FPS on older computers?
No More Brightness Shaders is optimized for low-end hardware and should have minimal impact on frame rate. If you experience drops, check that Iris is properly installed and your GPU drivers are up to date.
Can I use this shader with Optifine instead of Iris?
No More Brightness Shaders is built specifically for Iris and will not work with Optifine. You need Iris installed as your shader loader.
Does the shader change how mobs or blocks look?
No, the shader only adjusts ambient daylight levels. All mobs, blocks, and textures retain their vanilla appearance.
How do I disable the shader without uninstalling it?
Go to Video Settings, open Shader Packs, and select (None) at the top of the list to return to vanilla lighting while keeping the shader file installed.
