How to Turn On Nightmare Fuel Shaders and Switch Them Off Fast
Nightmare Fuel is a shader pack. It does nothing unless a shader loader such as Iris or OptiFine is running. The steps below assume you already have the pack file and a loader installed.
Enabling the pack
1. Launch Minecraft with your loader profile (Iris or OptiFine).
2. From the main menu or the pause menu, open Options → Video Settings → Shader Packs.
3. Click Open Shader Pack Folder. Drop the Nightmare Fuel file into that shaderpacks folder. Shader packs go here, not in resourcepacks.
4. Return to the Shader Packs screen. Nightmare Fuel should now appear in the list. Select it and click Apply or Done.
5. Load a world and confirm it is working. Lighting should look noticeably different, and the screen should begin warping and distorting.
Turning it off when you need a break
The pack deliberately warps your screen to disorient you, so you may want to drop out of it quickly:
- Go back to Video Settings → Shader Packs and choose OFF (OptiFine) or disable shaders (Iris).
- Iris also has a key that toggles shaders on and off. Look it up under Options → Controls so you know it before you start playing.
- If the pack doesn't show up in the list, check that the file sits directly inside
shaderpacksrather than in an extra subfolder.
