Crossing Cliffs, Ravines and Rough Terrain Through the Screen Distortion

Nightmare Fuel warps the screen with visual distortions meant to disorient your movement. It also adds chaotic interference while you travel over terrain. Jumps and ledges that are trivial in vanilla can get you killed here. These habits keep you alive.

Safe movement habits

1. Sneak near edges. Holding the sneak key stops you from walking off a block edge. This vanilla mechanic works no matter how warped your view is.

2. Stop sprint-jumping across gaps. Bridge across with blocks instead. Keep a stack of cheap blocks like dirt or cobblestone on your hotbar at all times.

3. Walk, don't sprint, on unfamiliar ground. Give yourself time to read the terrain between distortions.

4. Pause when the screen warps. If your view starts shifting, stand still until you can see clearly again before you step.

Emergency tools to carry

  • Water bucket: place water just before you hit the ground to cancel fall damage, or use it to put out fire.
  • Ladders or scaffolding: climb in and out of ravines safely instead of parkouring down.
  • Blocks to wall off lava: the warped view makes lava pools easy to misjudge. Dig with a block ready to plug any leak.

Route planning

The pack turns peaceful biomes into harsh, unsettling landscapes, so an area that looks dangerous may not be, and the reverse is also true. Mark safe routes with torches or pillars of blocks so you can follow known paths home.
