Take Clean Screenshots of Your Builds With Moonplayshader

Moonplayshader adds crisp shadows, smooth shading and colored light while keeping a bright, cartoon-like vanilla style. That makes it well suited to showing off builds.

Setting up the shot

1. Pick the time of day:

  • Daytime works best for showing the clean shadows under roofs, overhangs, trees and mobs.
  • Night works best for showing the colored glow of your light sources.

2. In a creative or cheats-enabled world, use /time set day or /time set night to control this.

3. Add depth before you shoot. Overhangs, arches, fences and recessed windows all cast shadows that make a flat wall look more detailed.

4. For a night shot, place light sources inside rooms and along paths so the glow spills outward.

Capturing it

1. Press F1 to hide the HUD and your hand.

2. Frame the build. A slight angle shows shadows better than a straight-on view.

3. Press F2 to save a screenshot. Open Options > Resource Packs > Open Pack Folder, then go up one folder level and open screenshots.

4. Press F1 again to bring the HUD back.

Comparison shots

Take one screenshot with the shader on. Then set the shader to Off in the shader menu and take another from the same spot. This before-and-after pair shows how the shadows and colored lighting change your build while keeping its vanilla look.
