Get the Best-Looking Water Reflections with Mist Bound Shaders
One of the pack's main features is semi-realistic reflections on water surfaces and wet materials. Where and when you look makes a big difference to how they come across.
Find a good viewing spot
1. Stand beside a calm, open stretch of water, such as a lake, a river or a large pond you dig yourself.
2. Look across the surface at a low angle instead of straight down. Reflections show up much more clearly at a shallow angle.
3. Put something interesting on the far shore, like trees, a build or a lit lantern, so the reflection has something to show.
Try different times of day
The pack aims for a moody fantasy atmosphere during both day and night, so the same lake can look very different:
- Day: the sky and surrounding terrain reflect in a soft, calm way.
- Dusk and night: place torches, lanterns or glowstone along the water's edge. The soft bloom on these light sources pairs nicely with the reflective surface.
Look for wet materials
The features also mention reflections on wet materials. Check surfaces after rain and around water to see where the effect appears.
If the reflections look weak, open the pack's settings from the Shader Packs menu and check whether any reflection-related option is turned down.
