Adjust Shadow Quality and Softness

Access Shader Settings

Open the shader options menu by pressing the designated key (usually found in your video settings under Shader Options). Look for shadow-related sliders and toggles.

Configure Shadow Parameters

Look for settings labeled Shadow Distance, Shadow Softness, or Penumbra. These control how far shadows render and how blurred their edges appear:

  • Increase softness for a more cinematic, diffused look under trees and buildings
  • Decrease softness for sharper, more defined shadow edges
  • Extend shadow distance if you want shadows visible further from your character, though this impacts performance

Performance Tuning

If shadows cause lag, reduce shadow distance first, then lower softness quality. On lower-end systems, consider disabling dynamic shadows entirely while keeping static shadow effects.

Test changes in different lighting conditions—bright noon, sunset, and night—to see how adjustments affect your world's appearance across the day cycle.
