Capturing Volumetric Light Beams, Soft Shadows, and Bloom in Screenshots

The most striking parts of Lucent Realms Shaders are the volumetric light beams, the soft shadows, and the bloom glow. Each one shows up best in particular places, so it helps to set up your shot.

Finding the light beams

The pack makes visible beams of light that filter through tree canopies and cave openings.

1. Forests: Head into a biome with thick leaf cover, such as a dark oak or jungle area. Stand under the canopy and look toward the sun. Beams should streak down through the gaps in the leaves.

2. Caves: Find a cave or ravine with an opening to the sky. Go below it and look up toward the hole. Light will pour in as visible shafts.

3. Time of day: Light coming in at a low angle in the morning or evening makes longer, more dramatic beams.

4. Hide the HUD: Press F1 before taking a screenshot (F2) to get a clean image.

Using shadows and bloom in builds

  • Real-time shadows fall beneath blocks, structures, and mobs. Overhangs, pillars, and roof eaves will throw long, soft shadows that give a build depth.
  • Torches, lanterns, and other glowing sources get a soft bloom halo. At night, line a path or doorway with lanterns to create warm pools of glow.
  • Shoot builds at dusk. You will catch fading sunlight shadows and lantern bloom in the same frame.
