Achieve an Authentic Found-Footage Look
Maximize Retro VHS Authenticity
To make your gameplay look like a genuine old video tape, enable all major effects at full or near-full strength:
- Turn on Interlaced Fields to replicate the scan lines of 1980s–90s cameras
- Enable Color Bleed and Ghosting for that characteristic smudged, slightly-out-of-focus quality
- Activate Tracking Tears to add random glitches and distortion lines
- Increase Film Grain to create a rough, worn-tape texture
- Enable Static for authentic analog noise
Choose Your Broadcast Standard
Select NTSC for a North American VHS tape aesthetic or PAL for European broadcast look. NTSC typically has slightly warmer tones, while PAL leans cooler.
Enhance the Atmosphere
Pair the shader with darker lighting and spooky locations (caves, abandoned structures, night scenes) to maximize the found-footage horror effect. The combination of visual degradation and eerie environments creates genuine tension. Avoid bright, cheerful biomes if you want to maintain the unsettling mood.
