Take Painting-Style Screenshots with Kuwahara Shaders
The oil-paint filter softens block textures and smooths harsh pixel edges across landscapes, skies, and mobs. That makes ordinary scenes look like artwork. These steps help you capture the effect cleanly.
Set up the shot
1. Hide the HUD. Press F1 to remove the hotbar, crosshair, and hand from view.
2. Pick a subject with lots of texture. Wide landscapes such as forests, mountains, and flower fields show the brush-stroke smoothing best. Close-ups of mobs show how their pixel edges are softened.
3. Include sky. The filter also applies to the sky, so a sunrise or sunset adds painted color gradients to the background.
4. Raise Render Distance temporarily if your PC can handle it. Distant hills then appear in the frame, which fills out the landscape-painting feel.
5. Adjust FOV in Options for framing. Lower values give a tighter, portrait-like shot, and higher values fit more scenery in.

Tips for a stronger result
- Shoot at golden hour or at night near light sources. That way the soft bloom adds warm highlights.
- Stand still for a moment before taking the shot. Moving the camera mid-capture can blur the composition you planned.
- Because the shader keeps the core vanilla feel, viewers can still recognize every block and build in your shots.
