Run Kuwahara Shaders Smoothly on a Low-End PC
Kuwahara Shaders is built to run well on low-end hardware without heavy lag. If your frame rate still dips, the cause is usually vanilla settings that put extra load on top of the shader.
Trim vanilla video settings first
Open Options > Video Settings and adjust these one at a time. Test in-game after each change:
1. Render Distance: Lower it a few chunks. The painted filter works on everything on screen, so drawing fewer distant chunks helps the most.
2. Simulation Distance: Lower it to reduce load in busy areas.
3. Graphics: Switch from Fancy or Fabulous to Fast if you need more headroom. The shader handles the stylized look anyway.
4. Clouds and Particles: Turn clouds off or to Fast, and reduce particles.
5. Max Framerate and VSync: Cap the framerate to a value your machine can hold steadily. Stable frames feel smoother than an uneven high rate.
If it's still slow
- Turn the shader off in the shader menu and compare your frame rate. If the game is slow even without the shader, the bottleneck is elsewhere, such as other mods or a large render distance.
- If the loader shows a Shader Options button for this pack, look through it for anything performance-related and lower it.
- Close background programs, especially browsers and video players.
- Avoid stacking other shader-heavy mods alongside it.
