Fixing Lag or a Missing Effect With Katamari Damashaders

Shader packs change how the whole world is lit and colored, so they ask more of your computer than vanilla. Here is how to sort out the most common problems while keeping the Katamari-inspired look.

The shader does not show up

  • No loader: The pack only works through a shader loader such as Iris or OptiFine. If Video Settings has no Shader Packs option, your loader is not running.
  • Wrong folder: Check that the file is in the shaderpacks folder, not resourcepacks.
  • Not selected: Open Video Settings → Shader Packs, select Katamari Damashaders, and click Apply.

The game runs slowly

1. In Video Settings, lower Render Distance a few steps and test again.

2. Lower Simulation Distance if your game has that setting.

3. Close other heavy programs running in the background.

4. If the pack offers its own options from the Shader Packs screen, open them and reduce any demanding effects. Change one setting at a time so you can see what helps.

5. To check whether the shader is the cause, set Shader Packs to Off and compare your frame rate. You can switch back at any time.

If the world looks too dark or too washed out on your screen, adjust Brightness in Video Settings. If the pack's options include a brightness or color control, adjust that until the bright, playful style looks right to you.
