Katamari Damashaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on Katamari Damashaders?
Open Options, then Video Settings, then Shader Packs, and select Katamari Damashaders from the list. Shader packs run through a shader loader, so that menu only appears if your loader is set up. Once selected, load into a world to see the new lighting and colors.
What does Katamari Damashaders actually change in my game?
It changes the standard world lighting and the color shading on blocks, mobs and scenery, giving the world a bright, quirky look inspired by the Katamari games. It does not add blocks, items or mobs. It only changes how the existing world looks.
Does Katamari Damashaders work with the default Minecraft textures?
Yes. It is designed to work alongside the default textures and acts as an artistic filter on top of them, so you don't need any special texture pack to get the Katamari-style look.
Can I use a resource pack with Katamari Damashaders?
Usually, yes. The shader changes lighting and color shading rather than the textures themselves, so your resource pack's textures will show through the Katamari-style filter. Some packs will look more or less colorful depending on their own palette, so check that the combination looks the way you want.
I selected the shader but my world looks the same, what's wrong?
Make sure Katamari Damashaders is actually highlighted as the active pack in the Shader Packs menu and not set to off or default. Also confirm your shader loader is running, because without one the shader pack can't apply. If it still looks unchanged, reselect the pack and reload the world.
Why is my game lagging with Katamari Damashaders on?
Shader packs make your graphics card do extra lighting and color work, so lower-end machines can lose frames. Try reducing render distance and other demanding video settings, and close background programs. If it's still too heavy, you can switch the shader off from the Shader Packs menu whenever you need smoother performance.
Do I need to install Katamari Damashaders on my server?
No. Shaders are purely visual and run on your own client, so the server doesn't need it. Each player who wants the Katamari look has to enable it on their own game, and other players won't see your shader.
Which biomes look best with Katamari Damashaders?
The shader recolors lighting across every biome, so it's worth exploring a variety. Bright, open areas with lots of different blocks and plants tend to show off the colorful, arcade-style look most clearly. Compare a few biomes at different times of day to find your favorite views.
Does Katamari Damashaders change how mobs look?
Yes. Its color shading applies to mobs as well as blocks, giving them the same fresh, retro-styled appearance as the rest of the world. Their models and behavior stay exactly the same.
How do I switch back to normal Minecraft visuals?
Go back to Video Settings, then Shader Packs, and choose the off or default option instead of Katamari Damashaders. Your world returns to standard lighting right away. The shader doesn't change anything in your save, so you can toggle it on and off freely.
