Keep Frame Rates Smooth With Shaders on a Budget PC
Forbis's ! Shaders has low performance requirements and is built to run on budget computers without heavy lag. Your other video settings still affect frame rate, though. Use these steps if the game stutters with the pack enabled.
Find out what is actually slowing you down
1. Press F3 to show your frame rate in the debug screen.
2. Note your FPS in a busy spot, such as your base or a village.
3. Open the shader menu and turn shaders off, then check FPS in the same spot.
4. If FPS barely changes, the shader pack is not the problem. Focus on your vanilla settings instead.
Settings to lower first
In Options → Video Settings, try these one at a time and check FPS after each:
- Render Distance: this has the biggest impact. Lower it until movement feels smooth.
- Simulation Distance: reduce it if your computer struggles with lots of mobs and farms.
- Clouds: set them to Fast or Off.
- Particles: set them to Decreased or Minimal.
- Entity Shadows: turn them off.
Other tips
- On Iris, also running a performance mod such as Sodium can make a large difference.
- Avoid stacking high-resolution resource packs on top of the shader. Large textures cost memory and can cancel out the pack's lightweight design.
- Close browser tabs and other heavy programs while playing on a low-end machine.
