Troubleshoot Depth Map Visibility Issues

Checking Shader Activation

Verify that Depth Style Shaders is actually enabled in your shader settings. Open the shader menu and confirm the shader name appears in your active list. If it's not loading, restart your game.

Adjusting Your View Distance

If the depth map appears too uniform or washed out, adjust your render distance:

  • Increase render distance to see more contrast between near and far terrain
  • Decrease it if the gradient feels too compressed or hard to read

The shader works best when you can see both very close objects and distant terrain in the same frame.

Checking Lighting Conditions

The depth map is independent of time of day, but visibility depends on your position:

  • Move to higher ground to see greater depth variation
  • Avoid being surrounded by blocks at similar distances—the gradient needs range to be visible
  • Look toward the horizon rather than at your feet for clearer depth separation

Performance Check

If performance drops unexpectedly, the shader itself isn't the cause (it's designed to run smoothly). Check your render distance and other mod conflicts instead.
