Capture Clean Depth Maps for Video Editing
Setting Up Your Shot
Enable Depth Style Shaders from your shader options menu. The world will convert to grayscale, with closer objects appearing darker and distant terrain lighter. Position your camera to frame the scene you want to capture—the depth gradient will help you visualize how objects sit in 3D space.
Taking Your Screenshot
Press your screenshot key (default F2) to save the depth map. The resulting image shows a pure depth buffer: blacks represent nearby blocks, whites represent the far horizon, and grays show everything in between.
Using in Post-Production
Import your depth map screenshot into your video editing software as a separate layer or channel. Use it to:
- Create custom depth-of-field effects by masking based on distance
- Generate focus pulls that follow your camera movement
- Isolate foreground, midground, and background for selective color grading
- Build 3D parallax effects by converting depth values to displacement
The shader's clean output means no post-processing cleanup needed—the depth information is immediately usable.
