Light Up Caves and Night Builds with Dara's Warm Torchlight

Dara Shaders gives torchlight a warm glow. That makes dark caves easier to read and gives nighttime builds a cozy look. Here is how to get the most out of it.

Lighting Caves

1. Before you go mining, carry a good stack of torches. Normal vanilla light-level rules still apply, so torches stop hostile mobs from spawning just as they always do.

2. Place torches at regular intervals along tunnel walls. With soft shadows on, each torch creates a pool of warm light with gentle falloff into darkness. That makes unlit side passages stand out clearly.

3. In large caverns, put torches on raised ledges and pillars. The light then spreads across the terrain and the shadows show off the cave's shape.

4. Use the contrast between lit and unlit areas to navigate. Sections you have already explored will glow warm, while untouched areas stay dark.

Making Night Builds Look Good

  • Light from inside. Put torches indoors near windows. The warm interior light reads clearly against the night outside.
  • Use light to frame entrances. Mount torches on either side of doors, along paths, and under overhangs. Soft shadows give the structure depth.
  • Don't over-light. The torchlight already brightens things a lot, so spacing torches out often looks better than covering every wall. Leave some darker gaps so the soft shadows can do their work.
  • Light near water. Put builds close to water and light them. Combined with the animated water surface, this makes a great nighttime scene.

Walk around your build after dark to see how the lighting falls, then move torches until the shadows look the way you want.
