Take Storybook-Style Screenshots with CRShaders

CRShaders combines Ghibli-style colors, soft shadows and painted skies, which makes it ideal for screenshots that look like stills from an animated film. These steps use only vanilla controls.

Framing the shot

1. Choose a scene with grass, trees or a building in the foreground and open sky behind it. This shows the soft shadows and the painted clouds together.

2. In a world with cheats, set the conditions:

  • /weather clear gives clean skies and soft clouds.
  • /time set day gives bright, vibrant colors.
  • /time set night shows the warm, gentle ambient lighting.

3. Raise Render Distance in Video Settings so the background scenery fills in.

4. Press F1 to hide the hotbar, hand and crosshair for a clean frame.

5. Press F2 to save the screenshot.

Getting more variety

  • Sunrise and sunset: Run /time set with values between day and night, then watch how the sky and shadows shift. Each change can give a different painted mood.
  • Low angles: Crouch near the ground and look up at trees against the sky for a dramatic, film-like composition.
  • Builds in context: Frame your cottage or village between trees so the soft shadows fall across the walls.
  • Night scenes: Take a shot of a lantern-lit path to capture the warm ambient lighting.

You can find your screenshots by clicking Open Screenshots Folder, or in the screenshots folder inside your Minecraft directory.
