Playing Smoothly on a Low-End PC with Cosinus Shaders
Cosinus is built as a lightweight pack that runs on potato computers without causing frame drops. That makes it a good option if heavier shader packs leave your game unplayable. Here is how to get the most out of it on weak hardware.
Swap out heavy packs first
1. Open Options > Video Settings > Shader Packs.
2. If another shader pack is active, select Cosinus Shaders in its place. Running one pack at a time is the only option anyway.
3. Apply the change and load a world.
4. Walk around and watch your frame rate with the F3 debug screen. It should stay close to what you get without shaders.
Tune vanilla settings around it
Cosinus keeps vanilla's look and lighting, so the usual vanilla performance settings still matter most:
- Render Distance: Lower this first if you still see stutters. It affects performance more than almost anything else.
- Simulation Distance: Reduce it on weak CPUs.
- Graphics: Set this to Fast for extra headroom.
- Clouds and Particles: Turn these down if large crowds or explosions cause lag.
If the frame rate is still poor, switch shaders to Off briefly and compare. If the game is just as slow without Cosinus, the bottleneck is your world or settings, not the pack.
