Set up solar eclipses with data packs

Prerequisites

This mod fixes the rendering order so the moon can appear visually in front of the sun. To create actual solar eclipses, you'll need a data pack that controls the celestial cycle and positions the moon to pass in front of the sun.

Creating an eclipse effect

1. Install a data pack that customizes the day-night cycle or celestial positioning. The data pack should use commands or mechanics to move the moon's visual position across the sky.

2. With Celestial Order Fix Shaders installed, the moon will now render in front of the sun instead of behind it, allowing the eclipse to appear correctly.

3. Test your eclipse by running the data pack's commands or waiting for its scheduled celestial event. You should see the moon gradually cover the sun without visual glitches.

Troubleshooting

If the moon still appears behind the sun, verify:

  • The mod is installed on your client (single-player or multiplayer)
  • Your data pack is actively running and positioning the moon
  • You're not using conflicting shader packs that override sky rendering

The mod itself doesn't create eclipses—it only fixes the visual layer order to make data pack eclipses work properly.
