Adjust Shadow Intensity and Softness

Access Shader Settings

While in-game, open the shader options menu by pressing the designated key (usually found in your controls settings, or accessible through the Pause menu under "Options" → "Shader Pack Settings").

Customize Shadow Behavior

Look for shadow-related sliders in the configuration menu. You can typically adjust:

  • Shadow distance: Controls how far shadows render from your character. Lower values improve performance; higher values show shadows across larger areas.
  • Shadow softness: Increases or decreases the blur effect on shadow edges. Higher softness creates gentler, more realistic transitions.
  • Shadow intensity: Darkens or lightens the shadow color itself, letting you control overall contrast.

Apply and Test

After adjusting values, the changes apply immediately. Walk around different areas—caves, forests, and open sky—to see how shadows behave under various lighting conditions. Experiment with combinations: softer shadows with lower intensity create a subtle, natural look, while sharper shadows with higher intensity add dramatic depth.

If performance drops, reduce shadow distance first, as it has the largest impact on frame rate.
