Keep Your Frame Rate Smooth While Using Carrot Shaders
Carrot Shaders is built to run smoothly and keep the classic vanilla look, with no flashy effects. Every shader still adds some load, though, especially from shadows. If your game stutters, the steps below will help.
Quick vanilla settings to adjust first
Open Options → Video Settings and work through these one at a time, testing after each change:
1. Lower Render Distance. This is usually the biggest gain. Shadows have to be drawn for everything in view, so fewer chunks means less work.
2. Lower Simulation Distance if you're in a busy area with many entities.
3. Set Graphics to Fast for a further boost. Carrot Shaders still provides the lighting and colors.
4. Turn down Particles and Entity Shadows if your scenes have lots of mobs or effects.
5. Set Max Framerate to match your monitor. This stops the GPU from working harder than needed.
Checking your loader's options
- In the shader menu of Iris or OptiFine, look for a Shader Pack Settings or similar button. If Carrot Shaders exposes options there, try lowering anything related to shadow quality.
- Shader packs can also run better with fewer heavy mods loaded alongside them.
- If performance is still poor, toggle the shader off from the same menu. Compare your frame rate with and without it to see whether the shader or something else is the bottleneck.
Make small changes and test as you go. Carrot Shaders' soft shadows and warm light should still come through at modest settings.
