Explore Safely at Night with Carrot Shaders
Many shader packs make nights pitch black. Carrot Shaders is different: it keeps night scenes clear enough that you can still find your way around. You can travel, gather and build after dark without being blinded.
Getting the most out of night visibility
1. Set your Brightness slider in Options → Video Settings. Carrot Shaders keeps nights readable, but the vanilla brightness slider still lets you fine-tune how much you can see.
2. Test it in the open first. Stand on a hill at night and look across the landscape. You should be able to make out terrain shapes, trees and paths.
3. Check caves separately. Underground spaces can feel very different from moonlit surfaces, so adjust brightness to suit the area you spend the most time in.
Staying safe after dark
- Clear visuals don't change mob spawning. Hostile mobs still spawn in dark areas exactly as they do in vanilla. Being able to see at night is not the same as being safe.
- Keep placing torches and other light sources. They stop mobs from spawning and mark your route home.
- Use landmarks. With nights staying visible, tall builds, pillars or lit paths are easy to spot from a distance and help you navigate.
- Watch the horizon at dawn. Warm sunlight returns over outdoor areas at sunrise, which signals that it's safe to head back out into open terrain.
