Improve Nighttime Visibility and Atmosphere

Understand Night Lighting

Beyond Horizons provides soft night lighting that balances visibility with atmosphere. Unlike vanilla darkness, the shader illuminates your surroundings with gentle ambient light, making nighttime exploration possible without torches—though they're still useful.

Enhance Nighttime Gameplay

  • Use glowing blocks strategically: Glowing blocks like lanterns, soul lanterns, and amethyst clusters emit light that the shader renders beautifully. Place them to create warm, cinematic lighting in bases or pathways.
  • Combine with torches: Torches interact well with the shader's soft shadows, creating natural-looking pools of light.
  • Explore caves at night: The shader's night lighting combined with glowing blocks makes underground exploration atmospheric without being too dark.

Adjust for Comfort

If nights feel too dark or too bright for your preference, check the shader settings menu for night brightness or ambient light sliders. Small adjustments here can make a big difference in how comfortable nighttime play feels. The shader's goal is warm, visible nights—if you find yourself unable to see, a slight brightness increase in settings is the intended solution rather than adding excessive torches.
