Adjust Shader Settings for Better Performance
Access the Shader Menu
Press the shader settings key (default: O) while in-game to open the Beyond Horizons configuration panel. This menu lets you fine-tune visual quality and frame rate without leaving your world.
Common Performance Tweaks
If your frame rate drops below your target:
- Reduce shadow quality: Lower shadow resolution settings to improve FPS while keeping soft shadows visible.
- Disable advanced lighting: Turn off extra ambient occlusion or volumetric effects if performance suffers.
- Lower water reflections: Water can be expensive to render; reducing reflection detail helps on older systems.
- Adjust draw distance: Reducing the render distance in shader settings (separate from Minecraft's setting) cuts processing load.
Finding Your Balance
Beyond Horizons is designed as a medium-performance shader, so most systems should run it smoothly at default settings. Test changes one at a time and check your frame counter (F3) to see the impact. If you're getting stable frames, the defaults are likely optimal for your hardware. Remember that time of day affects performance—night scenes with glowing blocks may render differently than bright daytime.
