Taking Cursed ASCII Screenshots with Ascii Craft Shaders
One of the main draws of Ascii Craft Shaders is its funny, cursed visual style for custom screenshots. Because blocks, mobs and items are all drawn as ASCII text, ordinary scenes come out looking like a strange retro terminal.
Setting up the shot
1. Make sure the shader pack is active under Video Settings → Shader Packs.
2. Pick a scene with a clear shape, such as a tall build, a group of mobs, or a skyline. Bold silhouettes read best when everything turns into text characters.
3. Press F1 to hide the HUD and hotbar so only the terminal-style world shows.
4. If you want a cleaner frame, try adjusting your FOV in Options. A narrower FOV makes the subject fill more of the screen, so its characters are easier to read.
Capturing and finding the image
- Press F2 to take the screenshot. A message in chat confirms that it was saved.
- Open the screenshots folder inside your Minecraft game directory to find the file.
- Press F1 again to bring your HUD back.
Ideas that suit the terminal look
- Line up mobs so the shapes of their characters stand out against the ground.
- Shoot item frames or displayed items up close. They also become ASCII symbols.
- Take the same shot with shaders on and off for a before-and-after comparison.
