Getting Smooth Frame Rates with Ascii Craft Shaders on a Budget PC
Ascii Craft Shaders is built to run with low system impact. It is meant to run smoothly on low and medium setups and on budget graphics cards. If you still get stutters, the cause is usually your general game settings, not the pack itself.
Test the pack's real cost
1. Stand somewhere busy in your world, such as a village or a forest.
2. Press F3 and note your frame rate with the shader active.
3. Open Video Settings → Shader Packs, turn shaders off, and check F3 again in the same spot.
4. If the two numbers are close, the shader is not your bottleneck. Adjust your vanilla settings instead.
Vanilla settings to lower first
- Render Distance: Lowering this is the biggest single performance gain. Because everything is drawn as text characters, far-off terrain is hard to read anyway, so a shorter distance costs you little.
- Simulation Distance: Reduce it to lighten the load from mobs and entities.
- Graphics: Switch from Fancy to Fast.
- Clouds, Particles and Entity Shadows: Lower these or turn them off.
- Max Framerate / VSync: Cap your frame rate to match your monitor. This stops your GPU from overworking.
If the shader pack shows its own settings menu in the Shader Packs screen, look for options that sound performance-heavy and lower them. Restart the world after big changes and check F3 again.
