Optimize Shadow Quality for Better Performance
Open Shader Configuration
Access the shader settings menu from your pause screen or controls. Navigate to the graphics or shadow section where quality presets are typically located.
Adjust Shadow Distance
Reduce the shadow render distance if you experience lag. Shadows cast closer to the player require less processing power. Lowering this value keeps nearby shadows detailed while removing distant ones.
Lower Shadow Resolution
Find the shadow map resolution or quality setting. Decreasing this creates softer, blockier shadows but significantly improves frame rates. This is one of the most impactful performance adjustments.
Disable Soft Shadow Filtering
If available, toggle off advanced shadow filtering or smoothing effects. This removes the blur applied to shadow edges, reducing GPU load while maintaining shadow presence.
Test Performance Impact
Apply changes and observe your frame rate in different environments—forests with dense trees, open plains, and underground caves. Shadows are most visible in varied terrain, so test thoroughly before finalizing settings.
Balance Quality and Speed
Find the sweet spot between visual quality and playable frame rates. You can always increase settings later if performance improves.
