Use Aalu's Shadows and Day/Night Lighting to Improve Your Builds

Aalu adds real-time sun and block shadows plus balanced day and night lighting. Builds that looked flat in vanilla can gain real depth, and a little planning helps you take advantage of it.

Add Depth With Shadows During the Day

1. Break up flat walls. Use stairs, slabs, fences and trapdoors so walls have overhangs and recesses. These shapes cast shadows that show detail.

2. Build roof overhangs. Extending a roof a block past the walls casts a shadow line that makes a house look more solid.

3. Plant trees and add pillars. Tall objects throw long shadows across paths and courtyards, especially in the morning and evening.

4. Walk around your build at different times of day. As the sun moves, the shadows shift. Check which side looks best before finalizing details.

Light Your Base for Night

  • Aalu's nighttime lighting is balanced, so placed light sources stand out against the darker surroundings. Walk through your base after sunset and look for dark corners that need light.
  • Place torches, lanterns and other light blocks where they will also cast block shadows on nearby walls and floors. This adds atmosphere while still keeping mobs from spawning.
  • Keep lighting even along paths so you can navigate comfortably at night.

Because Aalu keeps the vanilla color palette, your block choices will still look the way you planned them. Only the lighting and depth change.
