Keep Frame Rates Smooth on a Low-End PC
A Sluggy Hike Shaders is built to run fast on budget hardware with minimal impact on frame rate. Your other game settings still decide most of your performance, though. Use these steps to keep survival sessions smooth.
Tune the vanilla settings first
1. Press F3 in a world to show your current FPS in the debug screen.
2. Open Options > Video Settings and lower Render Distance a step or two. This usually gives the biggest gain.
3. Lower Simulation Distance if your version has it.
4. Turn Clouds to Fast or Off, and reduce Particles.
5. Turn off Entity Shadows.
6. Set Max Framerate to a value your monitor can actually display. This keeps the game from wasting effort.
Check whether the shader is really the cause
1. Stand in one spot outdoors and note your FPS.
2. Open the shader menu, switch shaders off, and check the number again from the same spot.
3. Switch A Sluggy Hike Shaders back on.
The pack is designed to be light, so the difference should be small. If you see a big drop, look elsewhere first:
- High-resolution resource packs
- Other mods that change rendering
- Outdated graphics drivers
You can also open the pack's settings screen from the shader menu. Check whether it offers any options you can lower.
