Set Up Death Penalties for Your Server

Configure Basic Penalties

Better Keep Inventory Plugin lets you customize what happens when players die. Start by opening the plugin's configuration file on your server.

Decide which penalties matter most to your gameplay:

  • Drop specific items: Choose which items leave the player's inventory and fall to the ground when they respawn
  • Remove experience: Set how many experience levels or points disappear after death
  • Damage gear: Reduce the durability of tools and armor so players must repair or replace them
  • Drain hunger: Lower the player's food bar as a consequence
  • Deduct money: Remove currency from economy plugins if you use them

Apply Penalties Per World or Group

You can create different penalty rules for different worlds or player groups. This means your survival world can have harsh penalties while a creative area has lighter consequences. Set up these distinctions in the configuration so penalties match each area's difficulty level.

Test your settings on a small group first to ensure deaths feel challenging but fair.
