Experience Ray Tracing and Realistic Lighting

Identify Ray Tracing Shaders

The modpack includes shader packs with ray tracing support, which creates realistic reflections and lighting by simulating how light bounces in the world. These shaders are typically labeled with terms like "ray tracing," "path tracing," or "realistic lighting." They require more GPU power than standard shaders.

Enable Ray Tracing Features

Select a ray tracing shader from the Video Settings menu. Once applied, look for its Settings panel—this is where you can enable specific effects like soft voxel shadows, water reflections, or global illumination. Start with one or two effects enabled to gauge performance impact.

Explore Affected Visuals

Walk near water to see realistic reflections of sky and terrain. Stand under trees to observe how soft shadows fall naturally across the ground. Enter caves to watch how light gradually fades and bounces off surfaces. These effects are most noticeable in varied terrain.

Balance Quality and Speed

Ray tracing shaders can significantly reduce FPS. If performance drops too much, disable the most demanding effects (like reflections) while keeping others, or switch to a non-ray-tracing shader for everyday play and save ray tracing for screenshots.
