Why They Keep Finding You
Zombie Awareness gives zombies a sense of smell and a memory of your last known position. Breaking line of sight is not enough — they follow your scent trail for a while after you leave. The fix is to manage the trail, not just the distance.
Practical Steps
- Do not run straight to your base when a horde is on you. Take a detour, cross water, or loop through terrain so the scent trail bends away from your door.
- Water breaks scent tracking. Crossing a river or swimming a short distance is one of the most reliable ways to lose pursuers.
- Light up your approach path. Zombies are drawn to dark areas, so a lit road to your base reduces ambient spawns that then follow you in.
- Build your entrance away from your bed and storage. If a zombie does get inside, you want it wandering a decoy corridor, not standing next to your chests.
- Sleep when you can. Clearing the night resets a lot of pressure, and lingering pursuers lose their lock.
After the Horde
Once
things are quiet, walk your perimeter and check for any zombie that got stuck against a wall or in a hole. A single stuck zombie can keep re-triggering attention on your base.
