Question 1

how do i set up simple discord link bot on my server

Accepted Answer

Drop the mod into your server's mods folder, start the server once to generate its config files, then open the config and paste in your Discord bot token plus your channel and server IDs. After restarting, the bot should appear online in your Discord server and start relaying.

Question 2

where do i get the bot token and channel id

Accepted Answer

Create an application and bot in the Discord Developer Portal to get the token, then enable the required privileged intents so it can read messages and members. Channel and server IDs come from enabling Developer Mode in Discord and right-clicking the channel or server to copy its ID.

Question 3

bot is online but nothing shows up in discord

Accepted Answer

This is almost always a wrong channel ID or the bot missing permission to view and send messages in that channel. Double-check the ID in your config and make sure the bot role has access to the channel you pointed it at.

Question 4

how does the chat relay actually work

Accepted Answer

Once linked, anything typed in Minecraft chat is posted to your chosen Discord channel, and anything typed in that Discord channel is sent back into Minecraft chat. You can format how each side's messages appear so players can tell who's speaking from where.

Question 5

can i run minecraft commands from discord

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can execute server commands by typing them in the linked Discord channel, and the bot forwards them to the server console. Access is gated by permissions, so only users with the right role can run commands.

Question 6

how do i use discord roles as a whitelist

Accepted Answer

The mod's access control lets you tie server entry to a Discord role, so only members with that role can join. Set the required role in the config and the bot checks each player's Discord account before letting them in.

Question 7

how do players link their minecraft account to discord

Accepted Answer

Players run the mod's link command in-game, which gives them a code, then they send that code to the bot in Discord to bind the two accounts. Once linked, access control and command permissions can recognize them by their Discord identity.

Question 8

does this work on a client or only the server

Accepted Answer

The bot runs on the server side and handles the Discord connection, so players don't need it installed to chat or be verified. Installing it client-side is only relevant if you're running a singleplayer world you want bridged.

Question 9

will this lag my server or use a lot of resources

Accepted Answer

The bot is lightweight and mostly just passes messages between Discord and the server, so performance impact is minimal on a normal server. If you relay very high-volume chat or run many commands, you may see slight overhead, but it's generally negligible.

Question 10

is it compatible with other chat or permissions mods

Accepted Answer

It generally coexists with other mods, but chat-formatting mods and permission systems can conflict over who controls chat and who can run commands. If messages look wrong or permissions behave oddly, check whether another mod is also managing chat or command access.
