Yes, even when the shield isn't rendered, it still mitigates a portion of incoming damage. The passive protection applies as long as the shield is in your off-hand.
How do I make the shield appear on screen?
Right-click to raise the shield, which makes it visible. When idle and not in use, it stays hidden to keep your screen clean.
Does the passive protection work if the shield is in my main hand?
