How to Craft Decorative Workstations and Beds (and Turn Them Back)
Decorative blocks look exactly like vanilla job blocks and beds. They have no inventory, no villager job tracking, and no sleeping. You make them from the normal vanilla block, and you can undo the conversion at any time.
Making a Decorative Block
1. Get the vanilla workstation or bed you want a fake copy of, for example a barrel, blast furnace, cauldron, grindstone, or any of the sixteen bed colors.
2. Get an item frame.
3. Open any crafting grid.
4. Place the workstation or bed together with the item frame in the grid.
5. Take the decorative version from the output slot.
The decorative block keeps the vanilla model, hitbox, collision box, and breaking sounds. Once it is placed, it looks the same as the real thing.
Converting Back to Vanilla
If you change your mind, for example because you want that barrel to actually store items:
1. Break the decorative block to pick it up.
2. Put it into a crafting grid on its own.
3. Take the standard vanilla block from the output slot.
The vanilla block works normally again. Workstations regain their function, and villagers can claim them as usual.
Tips
- Convert blocks before you place them. This avoids an unemployed villager grabbing a real workstation while you build.
- If you lose track of which blocks are fake once they are placed, use Inspection mode to outline them.
