Decorating a Tavern, Market, or Dock Without Villagers Claiming Your Blocks
Real workstations and beds give villagers jobs and draw them to your build. This makes detailed taverns, markets, and inns frustrating to decorate. Decorative blocks have no villager points of interest, so villagers never claim them.
Planning the Build
1. Decide which blocks are pure decoration. Typical examples are the tavern's barrels, the dockside grindstone, the market's smoker, and the inn's beds.
2. Convert each one by placing it with an item frame in a crafting grid.
3. Keep real, working blocks only where you want them, such as a storage barrel or a trading hall.
4. Place the decorative blocks freely. Villagers will not pathfind to them for jobs.
Inns and Bedrooms
All sixteen bed colors have decorative versions. They act purely as furniture. Neither players nor mobs can sleep in them. This means you can fill an inn with guest rooms without villagers trying to sleep in them.
Because you cannot sleep in decorative beds either, keep at least one ordinary vanilla bed somewhere you can reach to skip the night.
Adding Life to the Scene
- Toggle the smokers and blast furnaces to their lit texture so the kitchen looks busy.
- Fill decorative cauldrons with water or lava for a forge or brewery look.
- Add potion bottles to a decorative brewing stand behind the bar.
- Hang a decorative bell at the market square. It still rings when you right-click it or hit it with an arrow.
